Dagon = the fish god of the Philistines, the
upper half being a man and the lower half
a fish. The fish half represented fertility.
The name is from the word dag, meaning
fish. The Babylonians had a myth of a
being who emerged from the Erythraean Sea, being part fish and part man. Also found in Assyrian sculpture.
