GloFish = a trade-marked name for a zebra fish (Brachydanio rero) containing a gene from a jellyfish that makes the fish bright red or green under normal light
and fluorescent under ultraviolet light. Developed to detect environmental pollutants such as oestrogen and heavy metals via an estrogen-inducible promoter
and a stress-responsive promoter used to drive the fluorescent colour genes. Also sold as an aquarium novelty.
